A player drops a pass she has been missing for weeks. "You need to catch that" is true, and not what she needs right now. "Don't worry about it" is kind, and teaches her the struggle doesn't matter. The move is neither. It is reading what she needs this minute, then the next, then again on Monday.

In the boardroom

The report that is not good enough. You can be honest and cold, or nice and useless. Most of us pick whichever is easy for us that day. Both leave the person knowing less about themselves than they should.
